No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure.

Golden rules for having healthy mouth are:Brushing twice a day, flossing once a day and regular check up and clean every 6 months. Most health funds know these rules pretty well thats why, insured individuals are entitle to check up and clean twice per year, besides Calculus or tartar can not be removed with brushing or flossing alone. We recommend all our patients to come in for a check-up and clean every six months, the easiest way to keep your mouth healthy.
Here are some tips on how to improve Oral Hygiene routine:
- Always use soft tooth brush either electrical or manual
- Be generous with tooth paste
- Electrical tooth brush is better than manual simply because cars are faster than humans.
- Make sure your toothbrush is fluoridated
- If you brush once in the morning after breakfast and once before you go to bed, better floss after lunch in the afternoon. This covers your 24 hours better.
- Please do not rinse after brushing, you are actually flushing all good things away. Fluoride has a well known effect to defeat dental decay when you give it enough time to stay next to the enamel of your teeth so let the toothpaste stay in your mouth over the night.
You may be among the 45% of normal adults who snore at least occasionally or you likely know someone who does. He (or she) may be the brunt of jokes at family gatherings (“Uncle Joe snores so loudly he rattles the windows!”), but snoring is serious business.
For one, a snoring spouse often keeps the other person from a good night’s sleep, which can eventually lead to separate bedrooms. “Snoring can create real problems in a marriage.
Many people who snore have obstructive sleep apnea in which breathing is disrupted during sleep for short periods this can potentially increases the risk of developing heart disease.
Use caution before you self-treat with over-the-counter sprays and pills until you’ve checked with your dentist.
Many stop-snoring aids are marketed without scientific studies to support their claims.
Instead, try these natural solutions and lifestyle changes, which may help you stop snoring.
1. Change Your Sleep Position.
Lying on your back makes the base of your tongue and soft palate collapse to the back wall of your throat, causing a vibrating sound during sleep. Sleeping on your side may help prevent this.
A body pillow (a full-length pillow that supports your entire body) provides an easy fix. It enables you to maintain sleeping on your side and can make a dramatic difference.”
2. Lose Weight.
Weight loss helps some people but not everyone. Thin people snore, too.
If you’ve gained weight and started snoring and did not snore before you gained weight, weight loss may help. If you gain weight around your neck, it squeezes the internal diameter of the throat, making it more likely to collapse during sleep, triggering snoring.
3. Avoid Alcohol.
Alcohol and sedatives reduce the resting tone of the muscles in the back of your throat, making it more likely you’ll snore. Drinking alcohol four to five hours before sleeping makes snoring worse. People who don’t normally snore will snore after drinking alcohol.
4. Treatment with Oral Appliances
The treatment of snoring or Obstructive Sleep Apnoea with an oral appliance is safe, painless and effective. This treatment does not involve surgery.
Worn during sleep the Oral appliance will hold the lower jaw slightly forward and bringing the tongue with it. This prevents the tissues at the back of the throat from collapsing back in the airway. Oral Appliances have helped many people who snore or have Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
Your dentist can fit you with a mouth guard to protect your teeth from grinding during sleep.
If stress is causing you to grind your teeth, ask your doctor or dentist about options to reduce your stress. Attending stress counseling, starting an exercise program, seeing a physical therapist, or obtaining a prescription for muscle relaxants are among some of the options that may be offered.
Other tips to help you stop teeth grinding include:
-
Avoid or cut back on foods and drinks that contain caffeine, such as colas, chocolate, and coffee.
- Avoid alcohol. Grinding tends to intensify after alcohol consumption.
- Do not chew on pencils or pens or anything that is not food. Avoid chewing gum as it allows your jaw muscles to get more used to clenching and makes you more likely to grind your teeth.
- Train yourself not to clench or grind your teeth. If you notice that you clench or grind during the day, position the tip of your tongue between your teeth. This practice trains your jaw muscles to relax.
- Relax your jaw muscles at night by holding a warm washcloth against your cheek in front of your earlobe.
What is Gingivitis?
The most common cause for bleeding gums is Gingivitis. Gingivitis — an inflammation of the gums — is the initial stage of gum disease and the easiest to treat. The direct cause of gingivitis is plaque – the soft, sticky, colorless film of bacteria that forms constantly on the teeth and gums.
If the plaque is not removed by daily brushing and flossing, it produces toxins that can irritate the gum tissue, causing inflammation. At this early stage in gum disease, damage can be reversed, since the bone and connective tissue that hold the teeth in place are not yet affected. Left untreated, however, gingivitis can become periodontitis and cause permanent damage to your teeth and jaw.
Bad breath, or halitosis, can be a major problem, especially when you’re about to snuggle with your sweetie or whisper a joke to your friend. The good news is that bad breath can often be prevented with some simple steps.
Bad breath is caused by odor-producing bacteria that grow in the mouth. When you don’t brush and floss regularly, bacteria accumulate on the bits of food left in your mouth and between your teeth. The sulfur compounds released by these bacteria make your breath smell.
